[edit] History

Alvin High School opened in 1894, with its first graduating class graduating in 1897. Alvin High School gained more residents as many school districts consolidated into Alvin ISD [1].

Alvin High School was Alvin ISD's only high school until Manvel High School opened in fall 2006 with 9th and 10th grades, phasing in 11th and 12th grades in the following two years.

After the annexation of several school districts, ending with the Manvel Independent School District in 1973, Alvin High School served the city of Manvel, the town of Iowa Colony, portions of the city of Pearland (including the Brazoria County portion of Shadow Creek Ranch), and additional portions of unincorporated Brazoria County (including Rosharon) until the opening of Manvel High School [2].

On January 10, 2007 the students' lunches were delayed because of a bat in the cafeteria. As students waited outside they could see a few workers trying to handle the situation. One of them had a little green net. The situation ended in about 30 minutes and the students were allowed to eat in the cafeteria. Although this is the first time this specific event has happened, bats have always been a problem at Alvin High School. The faculty often warns students not to go near the bats for fear of spreading rabies.[citation needed]

[edit] Communities served by Alvin High School

Alvin High School serves the cities of Alvin and Liverpool as well as unincorporated portions of Brazoria County (including Amsterdam).

[edit] Standardized dress

Alvin ISD requires all students to wear standardized dress, which is similar to a school uniform; the issue on whether or not to have them in school is very controversial among students and staff.
