Alvin Batiste is a jazz/avant garde clarinetist born in New Orleans, Louisiana. He teaches at his own Jazz Institute - part of Southern University in Baton Rouge.

He recorded with Cannonball Adderly.
Several well known musicians studied under Alvin Batiste while at Southern University. They include Randy Jackson(American Idol), his brother Herman, Brandford Marsalis, Donald Harrison, Henry Butler,Charlie Singleton(Cameo), Woodie Douglas (Spirit).
