Alvedansen (English translation: "Dance Of The Elves") was the Norwegian entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 2006, performed in Norwegian by Christine Guldbrandsen. This was the first time since the 1998 entry and the introduction of the "Free Language Rule" that the Norwegian entry had not been performed entirely in English. In fact, no English recording of the song was made.
The song is a ballad, with Guldbrandsen taking the role of an elf and attempting to seduce her listener into joining her in a dance. At the Contest itself, Guldbrandsen and her female backing singers all wore white dresses, with one also playing a fiddle during the instrumental break.
As Norway had finished the Eurovision Song Contest 2005 in the top ten, the song was pre-qualified for the final. Here, it was performed fifth (following Latvia's Vocal Group Cosmos with I Hear Your Heart and preceding Spain's Las Ketchup with Un Blodymary). At the close of voting, it had received 36 points, placing 14th in a field of 24 and requiring Norway to qualify from the semi-final at the next Contest.
