Aluminium silicate
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Aluminium silicate (or aluminum silicate) has the chemical formula Al2SiO5. It has a density of 2.8 to 2.9 g/cm³, a vitreous lustre, a refractive index of 1.56, a Mohs hardness of 1-2, and an orthorhombic crystallography.[1]
Minerals composed of aluminium silicate include:
- Andalusite
- Sillimanite (also called Bucholzite)
- Kyanite
These all have the same chemical composition but are polymorphic, having different crystalline structures.
