An Astral Drop that is brought to life through the power of Quintessance. The Altermere's come to life and is no longer a slave to the Heart of Kandrakar, the altermere also has feelings and emotions and memories. The Altermere's has no experience of life how ever and enjoy what is their for them to enjoy. Altermere's also do what ever they can do to stay alive. Depending upon the Altermere that is created they also have the same powers of the real person.
In episode H is Hunted, when Will creates an Astral Drop to do chores for the real Will, when Nerissa visits the drop, she transforms her into an Altermere. In time the Altermere Will starts enjoying life like going to the park on the swings, smelling roses, eating food, trampling through water and dance. Nerissa then comes back to visit the Altermere and says the real Will will reabsorb her, but stops her.
In the end, both Will's transform into Guardians and use the powers on each other to defeat them, the real Will believes that the Altermere Will is alive and before there is peace, Nerissa then sends a blast of Quintessance towards the Real Will, but the Altermere Will takes the full force, near death, the Altermere Will is then absorbed into the Real Will after asking for this. When absorbed back into the real Will, show got shown what the Altermere Will did during her time including Susan kissing Professor Dean Collins.
Near the end of Season 2, Nerissa was trying to corrupt Yan Lin to control her mind, but failed in doing so, she was forced to absorb her into the heart of Meridian. Nerissa later went onto creating an Altermere of Yan Lin replacing the real Yan Lin, her desire to live was her weakness and Nerissa took control of her. Nerissa had the brainwashed Yan Lin bullying and fighting her granddaughter, but when she kidnapped and used her boyfriend Eric as a hostage, Hay Lin reacted and fought back.
After being used to fight W.I.T.C.H., Altermere Yan Lin was freed from Nerissa's thrall at the same time as the other members of C.H.Y.K.N., and she was imprisoned along side them when Nerissa absorbed them.
In the final episode of season 2 Yan Lin's altermere escaped her prison and came to live on Earth, where she was introduced to Hay Lin's Parents as Yan Lin's long lost twin sister Mira. As an almost perfect duplicates, Yan Lin and Altermere Yan Lin/now Mira Lin had a habit of finishing each other's sentences.
An altermere can be destroyed by the Heart of Kandrakar later known as Candracar by the Animational Series.
