Alta Vendita

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Originally published in Italian in the 19th century, the Alta Vendita (or, in full: The permanent instruction of the Alta Vendita) is a document purportedly produced by the highest lodge[1] of the Italian Carbonari.

The document details an alleged Masonic plan to infiltrate the Roman Catholic church and spread liberal ideas within it. The Carbonari had strong similarities to Freemasonry, and so the document is seen by some as a Masonic document. In the nineteenth century Pope Pius IX[2] and Pope Leo XIII both asked for it to be published. By asking that the document be published, the popes expressed their belief that it was true[3] - although this is disputed.

It is still propagated by many traditionalist and sedevacantist Catholics, who believe it accurately describes the evolution of the church in the post-Vatican II era.[4]

In Nesta Webster's World Revolution, she lists some passages from the Alta Vendita (also called Haute Vente Romaine) papers which seem to have parallels in the Protocols of the Elders of Zion.

Here are some parallel passages the first two containing an allusion to the many arms of the mythological giant Briareus:

Italy cannot breathe or move without the permission of the Supreme Pastor. With him she has the hundred arms of Briareus, without him she is condemned to a pitiable impotence.

In the Joly Dialogue, one has this:

In your societies, so fine and so well organized, in the place of absolute monarchies you have put a monster which is called the State, a new Briareus whose arms extend everywhere, a colossal organism of tyranny in whose shadow despotism is always reborn

In the Protocols, one has the parallel passage:

In the place of existing governments we will place a monster, which will be called the Administration of the Supergovernment. Its hands will be outstretched like far-reaching pinchers, and it will have such an organisation at its disposal, that it will not possibly be able to fail in subduing all countries.

This is interesting, an important parallel passage between the Joly dialogue and the Protocols refers to Vishnu and his many arms.

The Permanent Instructions of the Alta Vendita were published in L'Eglise romaine en face de la revolution by Cretineau-Joly in 1859.
