The Alt Eisen Riese is a fictional robot in the Super Robot Wars series. It has appeared as a playable unit in Super Robot Wars Impact and Super Robot Taisen: Original Generation 2.

[edit] Appearance

The Alt Eisen Riese has the same general appearance as its predecessor, Alt Eisen had. However, it has black highlights all over its body and is even more top-heavy due to the size of its shoulder armor and backpack.

[edit] Technical And Historical

For information on the original machine, see the Alt Eisen page.

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

After fighting various strong opponents, Kyosuke Nanbu had requested that his machine be upgraded, but there was not enough time to do so, as the Alt Eisen was sortied out into one battle after another. When the Alt was heavily damaged from a sortie against Axel Almer of the Shadow Mirror, Dr. Marion Radom, the creator of the Alt, decided to go ahead with the upgrades. Using spare parts from Excellen Browning's Weiss Ritter, various additions for the Alt Eisen were planned in order to fix its imbalance issues, so that Kyosuke would be able to push it beyond its limits: more armor plating was added for defensive purposes, the ammunition capacity for the Claymore launchers was increased, two more machine cannons were added to the left arm, the heat horn was upgraded to a plasma horn, and the Revolving Stake would be replaced with the Revolving Bunker, an older, more powerful version of the stake deemed too impractical to use in the original design. This solved the firepower problems the Alt was having. To further fix the imbalancing issues, a Tesla Drive was installed. Though a Tesla Drive usually allows a unit to fly, in this case, it instead allows low-level flight/hovering, as well as better movement to easy up the unit in its movement for easier attacking methods. Without the Tesla Drive, the machine would be incapable of even standing upright. A small pair of stabilizer "wings" were added on the shoulders to increase its overall mobility and speed. The new unit would be designated as the PTX-003C-SP1 "Alt Eisen Riese", or "Old Iron Giant" in German.

The Alt Eisen Riese would continue to serve as Kyosuke's main unit. Along with Excellen's "upgraded" unit, the Rein Weiss Ritter, they would act as a powerful team, capable of doing a redesigned "Rampage Ghost" combination attack.

[edit] Specifications

Height: 23.8 meters

Weight: 99.7 tons

Weapon Systems:

  • Penta Chaingun (simply "Chaingun" in the US version)
This weapon is similar to the Autocannon on the Alt Eisen, except that its five barrels are linked together in a gatling gun fashion.
  • Plasma Horn
A plasma-charged blade mounted on the Riese's forehead.
  • Revolving Bunker ("Revolver Bunker" in the US version)
The original version of the Revolving Stake in the Alt Eisen (which was a scaled-down version due to the original's ungainly weight and bulk). Although its mounting is substantially different from the Revolving Stake, its principle is the same, but with added damage capabilities. In Super Robot Wars Original Generation: The Animation, the Alt Eisen Riese could be seen reloading the weapon with a PT-scale speedloader.
  • Avalanche/Heavy Claymore ("Claymore Avalanche" in the US version)
The Avalanche Claymore is a larger variant of its predecessor, the Square Claymore. Both weapons saturate their victims with a hail of solid titanium ball bearings, with a substantial increase of projectiles in the "Avalanche" version.
  • Aerial Claymore ("Claymore Overlord" in the US version)
The Aerial Claymore is not a weapon in itself, but a series of precision-timed attacks. The Aerial Claymore is, in principle, similar to the Trump Card attack used by the original Alt Eisen. In Impact, the attack animation begins with 4 sets of Split Missiles, followed by the Plasma Horn, and ending it off with the Claymore Avalanche. In Original Generation 2, the Chaingun comes first, followed by the Plasma Horn, Revolving Bunker, and finally, the Claymore Avalanche.
  • Rampage Ghost
Kyosuke and Excellen's signature combination attack. There are different attack animations, depending on the game:
    • In Impact, the Weiss Ritter launches 4 sets of Split Missiles. A successful hit allows the Alt to deliver its Plasma Horn attack, sending the enemy flying away, followed by a returning attack of the Weiss' Oxtongue Rifle E at point-blank range. To end it off, the Alt uses its Revolving Bunker, while the Weiss stabs the enemy with its Plasma Cutter simultaneously, ending the combination attack.
    • In Original Generation 2, the Rein Weiss Ritter replaces the original Weiss. Both the Alt and Weiss fire their Chaingun and Triple Beam Cannon attack, respectively. The Alt rushes, while the Weiss uses its Howling Launcher E attack. A successful hit allows the Alt to deliver its Plasma Horn attack, sending the enemy unit flying directly into the energy beam from the Howling Launcher. The Alt then drives its Revolving Bunker into the enemy, setting off all 6 of its charges, resulting in the enemy flying off. The Weiss returns a Howling Launcher B attack at point-blank range, and with the Alt, simulataneously unleash the Howling Launcher X and Claymore Avalanche attacks, ending the combination attack.
