Alstad runestones

Two runestones are found in Alstad, Norway, N 61 and N 62.

Transliteration of N 61:

  • A iurun ¤ rais(t)i [¤] s(t)ain ¤ þina ¤ af(t)ir [¤] au-aun- ¤ is ¤ (h)ana ¤ --(t)i [¤] auk ¤ furþi ¤ af ¤ hrikariki ¤ u(t)an ¤ ur ulb¤aui-
  • B × auk ¤ (m)unta¤stain ¤ ----ir ¤ þusi ×

Transcription:

  • A Jórunnr reisti stein þenna eptir <au-aun-> er hana [á]tti, ok fœrði af Hringaríki útan ór Ulfeyj[u].
  • B Ok myndasteinn [mæt]ir þessi.

Translation into English:

  • A Jórunnr raised this stone in memory of <au-aun-> who owned her (ie. was her husband), and (she) brought (it) out of Hringaríki, from Ulfey.
  • B And the picture-stone venerates them.

Transliteration of N 62:

  • × ikli × reisti stein þana eftir × þoral... sun sin is uarþ tauþr × i uitahol(m)(i) miþli u(i)taulms auk karþa ×

Transcription:

  • Engli reisti stein þenna eptir Þórald, son sinn, er varð dauðr í Vitaholmi, miðli Vitaholms ok Garða.

Translation:

  • Engli raised this stone in memory of Þóraldr, his son, who died in Vitaholmr (Russian: Витичев) - between Vitaholmr and Garðar (Russia).
