Alonistaina

Alonistaina or Alonistena (Greek: Αλωνίσταινα) is a village located in the municipality of Falanthos in the westcentral part of the prefecture of Arcadia. Alonistaina is accessed with a road linking Stemnitsa and Tripoli. It is located S of Vytina, 25 km W of Tripoli, N of Megalopoli, about 15 km E of Stemnitsa and about 20 to 25 km SE of Dimitsana. Alonistaina is one of the highest villages in all of Arcadia and the Peloponnese.

Alonistaina is situated in a valley area near a creek. The mountains surround the villages and the majority of the land are mainly forested with Greek Fir and European Black Pine forests while parts of the area have a few crops along the village. Parts of the area have grasslands which is mainly to the south. The Mainalo mountain lies to the north, other mountains lie to the south.

Alonistaina has a a school, a church (Agia Paraskevi), a square (plateia) and 3 hotels: Theoxenia, Plataniti and Alonistena.

The entire population prior to the late-20th century were entirely rural and were also farmers. Today, they are the minority of the population of the settlement. Pavement and electricity were cut off until the mid to late 20th century.
