Almopia

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Almopía or Nótia (see below) is a village in the prefecture of Pella, Central Macedonia, Greece, at an altitude of 595 m, in the Upper Karacova Plain. For centuries, it was the largest Meglen Vlach village, and the only one with a regular market.

Until 1927, it was known as Nótia (Greek Nότια or Νώτια; [[Megleno-Romanian language|Megleno-Romanian Nânti or Nânta'; Macedonian and Bulgarian N'nti; Turkish Nutya or Yediköy).

The population of Notia was Meglen Vlach; its population converted to Islam in the 18th century. With the 1923 population exchange between Greece and Turkey, they were deported to Turkish Eastern Thrace.
