Almond roca

Almond roca (sometimes spelled almond rocha) is a confection created in 1923. The term "roca" means rock in Spanish.
It comprises almond toffee topped with chocolate and bits of almond. In the United States, the term is a registered trademark of Tacoma confectioner Brown & Haley, which markets its Almond Roca in iconic pink tins.
Since it is packed in air-tight tins it became a favorite of American soldiers in World War II. According to the Brown & Haley website, it even has a whole chapter dedicated to it in the book titled "Official History of World War II". Sir Edmund Hillary was known to have taken it on many of his journeys to the Himalayas.
