The Almighty Tallest are characters in the TV show Invader Zim. They are the leaders of an intergalactic empire known as the Irken Empire. There is usually one leader, the tallest Irken in the imperium, but since the two tallest Irkens (known only as Red and Purple) are of equal height, the power is equally divided amongst them (which they equally abuse). They both hate Zim (as does the rest of the Irken Race) and according to the unaired episode "The Trial" they seem to have known Zim since all of them were of a rather young age. However they are sometimes bemused by his actions. Although they have real names, Red & Purple are called only "My Tallest" by more or less all other Irkens (and thus they are never called by their names in the show). They occasionally argue about very small things, only to quickly forget the argument when something they agree on happens to show up (e.g. donuts, snack foods, torturing smaller Irkens, etc...).

[edit] Almighty Tallest Red
In The Nightmare Begins (the first episode), it is shown that Red is very self-absorbed. He likes lasers and nachos, and cares more about his political status than the people he rules over. Red also enjoys annoying his companion in ruling the Irken Empire. Overall he is somewhat more intelligent than his counterpart, having some sort of knowledge about the Massive's inner workings and mechanisms as seen in "Backseat Drivers from Beyond the Stars". He is also seen to be more willing to take action than his counterpart, as seen in the same episode, Purple hovers about catching doughnuts, where as Red is attempting to regain control of The 'Massive' (As snacks are very important to Irkens, Red yells for a nearby officer to save said donuts also)
The Almighty Tallest Red is voiced by Wally Wingert.

In The Nightmare Begins (the first episode of Invader Zim), it is shown that Purple is as self-absorbed and concerned with his political status as Red. He likes smoke machines and curly fries. As with Red, he has a fixation with snack foods. He is somewhat less intelligent than his counterpart, along with being noticeably lazier and a bit more spastic in his actions.
The Almighty Tallest Purple is voiced by Kids in the Hall veteran Kevin McDonald.
[edit] The Role of the Almighty Tallest
The Irken Empire has a hierarchal class structure, where shorter individuals are both figuratively and literally looked down upon. The tallest Irken born in a specific generation takes command of the Empire as "the Tallest", but since Red and Purple, the two current Tallest, are the exact same height, they share equal (and nigh-supreme) power. It seems that only growing tall can help one gain the status of Tallest, as Sizz-Lor's cybernetic enhancements actually make him technically taller than the Tallest, though, presumably, this could not have been the case before each was rebuilt into their new bodies. One should address the Tallest as "my Tallest" which is somewhat the Irken equivalent of "Your Majesty/Majesties".
While the previous Tallest supposedly held more power, the current Tallest are little more than "figureheads" introduced to give the Irken populace something to identify with in the imperium. As in a judge/jury system, though, the Tallest can occasionally over-rule a control brain's decision (e.g. when they alter Larb's assignment). Although they are seen to have the ability to do anything that they please, it is likely that they really just don't WANT to do anything else, content with their already leisurly condition of life. Presently, they travel around to observe and supervise Operation Impending Doom II in The Massive, the largest and most powerful ship in the Irken Armada.

The following Almighty Tallests are featured in the unproduced episode "The Trial", which explains Zim's past. Zim was responsible for their untimely demise.
- Almighty Tallest Miyuki (first-ever female Tallest) - She has never been seen in the series. She was eaten alive by an Infinite Energy Absorbing Blob creature created by Zim while he was a scientist working at the Vort Research Station 9. It was during her reign that the Massive was designed.
- Almighty Tallest Spork - his time as the Almighty Tallest was very short, after being made the Tallest on his first day came about his termination by the Infinite Energy Absorbing Blob.
