Allende family

The Allende family of Chile is of Basque origin, and became well-known during the 19th century but only influential in the 20th. It has played a very significant role in Chilean politics. Its most prominent members are:
- Doctor Ramón Allende Padín, Chief of the Chilean Army Medical Corps during the War of the Pacific (1879 - 1884) and politician
- Salvador Allende Gossens, Chilean politician and President of Chile (1970 - 1973)
- Hortensia Bussi Soto, First Lady (1970 - 1973)
- Deputy Laura Allende Gossens, Chilean politician
- Deputy Isabel Allende Bussi, Chilean politician
- Beatriz Allende Bussi, Chilean revolutionary
- Andrés Pascal Allende, Chilean revolutionary and terrorist
- Isabel Allende Llona, Chilean best-seller writer
- Juan Allende Llona, professor of political science
