Alison Duncan ran for Lieutenant Governor of New York on the Green Party line in the 2006 gubernational election. She was the running mate of Malachy McCourt. McCourt and Duncan were defeated by Democrats Eliot Spitzer and David Paterson. She is a member of Hotel Trades Council, Local 1, which is part of Hotel Employees and Restaurant Employees Union (HERE). She is a lesbian and is active in promoting LGBTIQ rights and interests.

Alison was born on May 4, 1975 in Long Beach, California. Her parents soon moved to Indiana, and when she was four years old she begged to move to New York State. Her parents relented and moved to Niskayuna, a suburb of Schenectady. Alison attended Rosendale Elementary School, Iroquois Middle School and Niskayuna High School. She was co-editor of opinion on the Warrior, the school newspaper and Secretary of Student Political Interest Forum (SPIF), a club for discussing political news. [1]
Alison showed talent in voice, piano and clarinet.
After graduating high school in 1993, Alison entered the Hartt School to study Opera, and also majored in Economics at the University of Hartford. During this time she changed her major to Music Theater, developed as a theater technician and playwright, and came out as a lesbian. In 1999, she received a B.F.A. in Music Theater and a B.A. in Economics. Her reputation as an extremely hard worker was cemented in Hartford, where she often took 20-30 credits per semester.
In the fall of 1998 she moved to New York City to develop her career. She became a member of WOW Café and has produced and directed several plays there, some of which she wrote. She works at the Crowne Plaza on Broadway as an Audio-Visual Technician. Within a month of being hired at the hotel she was elected the union delegate for her shop.
In 2006, Duncan became the first openly gay candidate for New York Lieutenant Governor[1][2][2] [3]At an appearance with McCourt and Green Party candidate for Attorney General of New York Rachel Treichler in Buffalo, New York, she sang campaign songs with an Irish American band.[4]
