[edit] Plot

Dr. Jesse Travis disappears from his cabin in uptown LA, which is close to a military base. He shows up five days later with no recollection of the past days. Lt. Steve Sloan and Dr. Sloan put their heads together to come up with the befuddling end to this episode. Most of the guest stars in this episode are well known actors from science fiction shows such as Star Trek.

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

Jesse and his partner, Dr. Parker Craddick had been working on a study for a drug for Paris Pharmecuticals. The study was going horribly wrong. Craddick was taking bribes and Jesse was coming up with some very negative results. Paris Pharmecuticals would go under if this drug was not put out on the market. Paris hired a man, Quinn Trask (Walter Koenig), to kill Kitrich and ruin Jesse's reputation. This way, the study would be null and void and the product would be free to release.

Trask kidnapped Jesse from the cabin, implanting the idea that he had been abducted by aliens. After keeping him drugged for five days, he dumps Jesse off on an abandoned road in Oregon. Steve finds Jesse and quickly learns he has no memory of the last five days, and he only remembers a green light, the cabin rattling and an alien-looking person arriving at his door.

Trask, in disguise, visits Jesse and tells him to go to the Encounter Institute, for people "like him" who have seen aliens. Jesse follows Trask's advice and escapes from Community General Hospital. He tells his story, and the next morning, it is on the front cover of a popular tabloid magazine, with other un-true rumors added. (The Institute was a phony, and its purpose was to get Jesse's story, so Trask can print it, further ruining Jesse's reputation.)

Back at his apartment, Jesse is visited by men from the military base that the cabin was next to. They had found his wallet on the grounds and wanted to know how it got there. They ransack the room and leave. Jesse calls Steve, who after inspecting the room, takes him back to Community General Hospital.

Jesse gets a call from Craddick's doctor to meet him somewhere where safe, an old abandoned warehouse, where they can talk. Again, he escapes Community General. Trask follows them there, kills the doctor, then he ruins evidence that backs up Jesse's story. (Trask takes the body of the doctor and dumps it in a near-by river.) Mark is beginning to think the stress of the job in finally getting to him and temporarily suspends him, until they can find out the problem. Fortunately, the body washes up and someone brings it in. Dr. Amanda Bentley runs the autopsy and finds that the man was shot twice and has splinters in his arms that matched the ones in the warehouse, meaning Jesse's story is true.

Trask, realizing Mark is on to him, gives Jesse a gun and tells him to escape to the cabin, where, unknown to Jesse, Trask was planning to convince Jesse to kill Mark. This would be a complete end to Jesse's credibility and land him in jail. Both Trask and Mark arrive at the cabin at the same time, and Trask tries to convince Jesse to shoot Mark, while Mark tries to convince Jesse to put the gun away. Trask pulls out his own gun and tries to kill Mark. Jesse shoots Trask in the shoulder, to save Mark. The police arrive. The episode ends back at Jesse's apartment where Dr. Sloan finds out that Jesse was being drugged which explained his irrational and harsh behavior.
