Alichen-Mokokchung-DEF

Alichen-Mokokchung-DEF refers to the continuous settlements in Mokokchung District that stretches from Yimyu in the Northwest through Mokokchung town and Ungma to Alichen in the South and from Mokokchung town through Fazl Ali College campus to Chuchuyimpang and D.E.F. Township in the Northeast. This almost continuous settlements are on Ongpangkong range and are located at altitudes between 1050 to 1400 metres above sea level. Mokokchung town, the epicentre of the urban hub stands at an altitude of 1325 metres.
Alichen-Mokokchung-DEF occupies a very important position in Nagaland. It is the largest settlement hub in Nagaland after Dimapur-Chumukedima and Kohima.It is at the juncture of five major highways of Nagaland. The NH-61 passes through this area. Educationally, it has been the leader in Nagaland. The institutions of Mayangnokcha Higher Secondary School, Fazl Ali College and Clark Theological College has churned out Nagaland's best leaders over the last five decades. It is also the hub of the district with the highest literacy rate (84%) in Nagaland.
Mokokchung town's population is around 40,000 while Alichen-Mokokchung-DEF urban agglomeration area has a population of around 62,000.
