You may be interested to know that both the Parish and the Town of North Petherton (which includes the vilages North Newton, Moorland & Somerset Bridge), in Somerset have adopted the Alfred Jewel as a symbol for the population. North Petherton is apparently the smallest town in the Country and, therefore, has a Town Mayor who has a badge of Office which includes a replica of the Alfred Jewel. The rector (The Rev Sue Rose)of the parish has incorporated the badge in her robes, and the newly formed North Petherton Bowls Club has also adopted the symbol.
