Alfred Berg is a Nordic investment bank and today a wholly owned subsidiary of the Dutch banking group ABN AMRO. The base company was founded in 1863, same year the Stockholm stock exchange opened its doors, but was renamed to Alfred Berg in 1901 when acquired by Mr. Alfred Berg.

Until the mid-1970s, Alfred Berg was a family owned business. Following a period as a partner-operated firm, Alfred Berg became a subsidiary of the Volvo Group in the early 1980s.

In the mid 1980s, the firm began to expand from its Swedish stockbroking base into Norway and Denmark. The pan-Nordic concept, which many competitors would soon follow, was fully in place in the early 1990s with the establishment of offices in London (1990), Helsinki (1991) and New York (1992). Since 1995 Alfred Berg has been owned by ABN AMRO, and the equities business in Moscow which was established that same year was subsequently integrated into the local offices of ABN AMRO in 1998, together with the UK and US companies.

In the 1980s and 1990s the business expanded from research and stockbroking into a full range of investment banking products, including corporate finance , fixed income brokerage and asset management.
