Alfred Belpaire

Alfred Jules Belpaire (26 September 1820 — 27 January 1893) was a Belgian locomotive engineer credited with introducing the Belpaire firebox.
Belpaire was born in Ostend, Belgium, and talent saw him go to university in Paris (Ecole Centrale des Arts et Manufactures).
In 1860 he introduced a new square-topped firebox.
He died in Schaarbeek, Belgium aged 72.
