Alfred A. McKethan Stadium

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Alfred A. McKethan Stadium at Perry Field is the baseball stadium for the Florida Gators. It is located in Gainesville, Florida, near the basketball arena, the Stephen C. O'Connell Center, and the football stadium, Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.

The stadium, which was recently renovated prior to the beginning of the 2007 season, now seats 6,000 fans at capacity. The renovation included an additional 1,000 seats down the left baseline, in addition to upgrades to the locker rooms and baseball offices.

The stadium's name comes from two University of Florida alumni:

  • Alfred McKethan (1908-2002), who gave $2.4 million to build the facility in 1988 and an additional $300,000 in 1996 to build the press box.
  • Carl "Tootie" Perry, Gainesville native and former Gator football player (1916); his family owned the land on which the stadium sits, and donated it to the University with the stipulation that it be named after their son.
