Hi, I'm Alex La Hurreau, here in Indiana. Right now my main wiki focus is updating articles related to television stations, especially those in Indiana. I will try to correct any out-of-date articles that I find, and expand others (where possible). To help the project along, I have created /StationCounting, a semi-portal page that documents the progress of WikiProject Television Stations. I also have /Mediacom Angola, a table of broadcast stations present on local cable in Angola, Indiana.

[edit] Frequently Asked Questions

[edit] Why did you create all those redirects?

I have created many, many redirect pages. Most of them redirect from the name of a repeater station, to the name of the station they repeat. I have created these redirect pages to make the repeaters easier to refer to. For example, a remote town in the Great Plains may be served not by primary stations, but by repeaters. Without the redirects, one would have to list the station like this: [[KZZZ|K70ZZ]], but with the redirects, you can simply do this: [[K70ZZ]].

Additionally, it makes the task of sorting the low-power stations much easier. By making redirects for repeaters, the stations that show original programming (or at least require more research) will stand out in lists of missing television stations.

[edit] Why did you move my article?

I have moved several articles in accordance with Wikipedia:Naming conventions#Broadcasting. Until recently, there has been no real consensus as to the proper names for radio and television articles, which has left many articles at the "wrong" name. When I find such articles, I move them to the proper name, and update templates (where appropriate). I will also, from time to time, edit other articles that mention the station, and list the proper call sign.

[edit] Why did you edit my user page / subpage?

Occasionally, I will also edit user pages or subpages that mention the "wrong" name for a radio or television station. I am much less zealous about this now than in the past. Also, if your subpage seems to be part of the Television Stations Project I may try to help improve it. This usually includes lists of television stations, markets, and other assorted broadcasting data.

[edit] What is the TVcoord template for?

The television station coordinates template (Template:TVcoord) was created to provide a simple way for editors to add latitude and longitude coordinates for television and radio transmitters in the United States. I recommend using the official data from the FCC database, rather than visiting the site with a GPS device. An example of the template's usage can be found in the WFWA article.

[edit] You wrote an article about my station, and it isn't correct

First of all, remember one of Wikipedia's main tenants: Be Bold. If you do not wish to edit the article yourself, you can simply leave a message on the article's discussion (or "talk") page. Another editor will see your comments, eventually, and will take them into consideration for the next revision. NOTE: Normally, I only monitor the articles for my local stations. If you wish to contact me directly, use my talk page or use the "E-mail this user" function from the toolbox.

Articles about television stations sometimes contain incorrect or out-of-date information, especially if there is little to no information on the subject. If you really want to help get the message out about your station, perhaps you should set up an official web site. This can then be used as a source for the Wikipedia article and other information resources.

[edit] The WKKF Mystery

From 1984 to at least 1986, there was a television station in Anderson, Indiana, WKKF channel 67. The FCC's database lists it under fac_id 2213, with a status of "PERMIT CANCELLED", meaning it likely never got past the construction permit stage. As far as I can tell, the station was not listed in TV Guide at the time, meaning it was either a religious/shopping station, or never actually went on the air. The station was owned by Anderson Corporation, based in Washington, DC. If anyone can provide more information about this station, I will write an article about it.
