Dr. Alex Hershaft's work has been recognized by a large number of national and international vegetarian and animal rights organizations, which have given him awards and invited him to sit on organizing and planning committees and panels.

Dr. Hershaft was an early developer of low-cost activist vegetarian and animal rights conferences, some of which were called "Action for Life" conferences.
