Alexia (Cypriot singer)

Alexia Vassiliou represented Cyprus in the 1981 Eurovision Song Contest as part of the group 'Island'. This was Cyprus' debut in the contest and they finished a creditable 6th with their entry Monika. Vassiliou represented the island again in the 1987 Eurovision Song Contest held in Brussels, taking the song Aspro Mavro to 7th place.

Alexia was one of the biggest Greek pop stars in 90s. She has released many albums that all received platinum and gold success. Also in 1987 her song I AM SIAM made huge success in usa billboard. She studied in Berklee university of music in USA. Her big lungs helped her to turn from a pop star to a serious singer that lead her to a collaboration with the big Greek composer Mikis Theodorakis with a release of a hugely successed album Alexia and Theodorakis.

After 8 years she is set to return this year with the international album ReBE where Alexia is set to bring a new status in Greek music. She has also created a music company that is going to pursue jazz music in Greece.
