Alexei Tikhonov (Russian: Алексе́й Влади́мирович Ти́хонов) (born November 1, 1971 in Leningrad (now St. Petersburg), Russia) is a world champion figure skater. He hails from Yubileiny Sport Club.
His prior partners were Irina Saifutdinova and Yukiko Kawasaki (with whom he competed for Japan). He currently skates with Maria Petrova, with whom he won the World Championship in 2000. They placed 6th at the 2002 Winter Olympics and 5th at the 2006 Games. They won a silver medal at the 2005 Worlds, and a bronze in 2006.
Petrova and Tikhonov announced they would retire after the 2006 Worldsthough at the request of the Russian Skating Federation they later agreed to remain eligible for another year. It is unclear who will "take up the mantle" of Russian pairs figure skating--Russians have been dominant in the sport for many years.
They are coached by Ludmila Velikova. Their choreographers include Alexander Stiopin and Sergei Petukhov.
Petrova and Tikhonov name Olympic Champions Gordeeva/Grinkov and Mishkutenok/Dmitriev as their idols in skating.
