Alexander Shabalov (born September 12, 1967) is an American chess grandmaster, the multiple winner of the U.S. Chess Championships. He is of Latvian origin, and like his fellow Latvians Alexei Shirov and Mikhail Tal he is known for courting complications even at the cost of objective soundness. As of the October 2006 rating supplement Shabalov had a United States Chess Federation rating of 2650, ranking him 11th best among American chess players.

Currently, Alexander Shabalov regularly lectures chess players of all ages at store that he runs in a Pittsburgh Pennsylvania mall. Amazingly, this estemed chess player is willing to play a game with about any random player who walks in the door.
