Jan Alexander Östlund (born 2 November 1978, in Åkersberga, Sweden) is a Swedish football (soccer) player, currently playing as a defender for Southampton, where he joined from Feyenoord Rotterdam on January 30, 2006.

Östlund started playing for his home club IFK Österåker. At the age of 16 he was drafted for AIK, where he played as a striker. He scored the club's last goal of the 1997-98 season that meant AIK won Allsvenskan, the Swedish championship. He had a loan period at Birmingham City but was not offered a contract; he was then transferred to IFK Norrköping and re-educated as a defender. His first appearance for Feyenoord was against Vitesse Arnhem.

Östlund played for Sweden at the 2004 European Championship. Despite being a regular fixture in the international side, he has recently been overlooked for the 2006 Swedish World Cup squad. He has been capped 21 times for Sweden, as of December 2005.

His nickname is "Salle", although the fans of Southampton have been calling him both "Jesus" and "Captain Caveman" due to his flowing locks and beard, and is emerging as a cult hero for his hard tackles and marauding runs. On the final day of the 2005-06 Championship season, replica shirts with number 2, 'Jesus' were flying out of the club shop, and Saints fans can now be heard chanting "Jesus is our rightback" from the stands. He is also known to wave at the crowd after the chants "Jesus, give us a wave" are sung from the stands, when either warming up or on field during a stop in play.
