Alex Smart

Alex Smart (born May 29, 1918) is a retired Canadian ice hockey forward.
Smart was born 1918 in Brandon, Manitoba, Canada. He played only one year in the National Hockey League with the Montreal Canadiens during the 1943 season. On January 14th of that year, he would become the first player to ever score a hat trick in their first NHL game. Real Cloutier would equal Smart's feat in 1979, however Cloutier had played for several years in the World Hockey Association. Smart would later lead the Ottawa Senators to a victory in the Allan Cup in 1949. He worked for Goodyear Tire for forty years in addition to being a scout for the LA Kings. He died april 19th, 2005.
