Alex McMillan

John Alexander 'Alex' McMillan, III (born May 9, 1932) is a North Carolina Republican politician who served five terms in the U.S. House of Representatives, representing the state's9th District.

McMillan, a native of Charlotte, North Carolina, graduated from the prestigious Woodbury Forest Boarding School in Orange, Virginia. McMillan attended college at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and earned his M.B.A. from the University of Virginia.

After breifly serving as an intelligence agent in the United States Army McMillan was hired by the Harris Teeter super-market chain, rising to become its vice president in 1977. He served on the Mecklenburg County board of commissioners and its board of social services before being elected to Congress in 1984. He did not run for re-election in 1994. McMillan currently serves on the faculty of The Citadel.
