From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Alexander J. McKinnon (August 14, 1856 - July 24, 1887) was a 19th century Major League Baseball first baseman from Boston, Massachusetts. He played for several teams in his short-lived career in the National League.[1]

In 1884, he committed 53 errors in 116 games, when playing first base for the New York Gothams, for a .955 fielding percentage. That is still record for lowest percentage for a first baseman in a single season.[2]

He died of typhoid pneumonia in Charlestown, Massachusetts, and was laid to rest at Lowell Cemetery in Lowell, Massachusetts.[3]
