[edit] Life and Work

His photographic interests are wide ranging, however landscape work and music photography can be considered his main concerns, as is evident from his most recent exhibitions.

For his music photography, he has received praise from the editor of Kerrang! Magazine, been shortlisted for a BBC award, and worked with bands such as The Dresden Dolls, Billy Corgan, Fields and Mike Garson (David Bowie) who he has created several album covers for, as well as much promotional work. The Dresden Dolls exhibition also involved Scottish photographer/artist/author Louise Anne Brown.

He is currently working on a poverty photography project involved with Glasgow and New Orleans, as well as a separate project with renowned Scottish painter Hugh Loney. as well as his own work, which is engaged with contemporary social issues as well as problems of identity.

In August 2006, a Scottish publishing company called Danae Press announced that they will publish a catalogue of his work.

[edit] Recuring themes

While best known for stark Black and White imagery, certain recuring themes and influences are present in Boyd's work. He has in a recent interview cited Gerhard Richter and Gottfried Helnwein as major influences as well as the photographic approach of Ansel Adams. In his work themes of German Militarism and a fascination with 1930's and 40's Germany are apparent, as are themes of urban decay as well as the social effects of architecture. The German influence is also apparent in the titling of many works, which are derived often from fascist slogans, however are often used in a contradictory or mocking stance. Recently however according to his own site, his interests have started to move more towards dealing with social issues, such as poverty and themes of oppression.
