Aleksandra Ziółkowska

Aleksandra Ziółkowska also known as Aleksandra Ziółkowska-Boehm, and Aleksandra Ziolkowska-Boehm) was born in Łódź, Poland on 15 April 1949. As a student, she worked as the private assistant to the well-known Polish writer Melchior Wankowicz from 1972-1974. For her help and research with his latest book, Wankowicz dedicated that book to her, and in his last will and testament, he officially gave her all his archives. A member of the Society of Polish Writers, Warsaw, and the PEN American Center, she currently writes for both Polish and English language publications and has appeared in documentary films in Poland and in the United States. She has written historical biographies and autobiographical stories of her peripatetic life. Since April 1990, she has lived permanently in the United States residing in Wilmington, Delaware. She continues to publish her books in Poland and writes for numerous magazines in the Polish language press in Poland, USA, Canada. Recipient Kontrasty award 1980, Zloty Exlibris award Ksiaznica Pomorska 2001, In 2006, she was awarded a fellowship in the Literature–Creative Nonfiction discipline by the Delaware Division of the Arts.
Ziolkowska-Boehm received a scholarship from the Oxford Language Center (Oxford, England) in 1975. From 1977-1981, she worked as a member of the Repertoire Research Staff for the Warsaw TV Theater. She subsequently was awarded scholarships/fellowships by: The Ontario Ministry of Culture (Toronto, 1982); The Canadian Polish Research Institute (1982); The A. Mickiewicz Foundation (Toronto, 1983); The Institute of International Education (Fulbright, Washington, DC, 1985); The Kosciuszko Foundation (New York, 1990). For the academic year 2006-2007, she has been selected for a FULBRIGHT award in the Research Category for 9 months at Warsaw University. She is married to C. Norman Boehm Jr. and has one son Thomas Tomczyk.

The scenario for the musical play “2 Korpus w piosenkach Ref-Rena” that appeared on Warsaw TV in 1991 (produced by Barbara Borys-Damiecka). She appeared in four documentary movies dedicated to: Zbigniew Brzezinski the national security advisor to President Jimmy Carter, Canadian senator Stanley Haidasz, the author Melchior Wankowicz (all on Warsaw TV) and Korczak Ziolkowski, the sculptor (her late great uncle) of “Crazy Horse” in the Black Hills of South Dakota (Philadelphia TV).
