Alejo Bay

Alejo Bay was born in Alamos, Mexico in 1891 and was a famous Irish Mexican political leader.

Don Alejo Bay figured during a long time in political and federal issues in Sonora, Mexico. His father was Thomas Bay, an Irish American from St. Louis, Missouri. Alejo Bay was two times federal representative, senator of the republic, local representative and governor of Sonora during the Mexican Constitutional period from 1923 to 1927. He was also the general treasurer during 1939, under the command of general Macias Valenzuela. Made a good friendship with Mexican president Alvaro Obregon. During 1920, as a senator of Mexico, he joined a group that was lead by generals Jose Gonzalo Escobar and Fausto Topete, which caused him to march in the desert for five years.

Alejo Bay died in Rochester, Minnessotta. His death made a hard impact on the people of Sonora because of his devoted actions towards the poor people. Many people remember him as a man of very big heart and a very noble personality.
