Alec Herd was a Scottish forward who was born in Bowhill in 1911. He played for Manchester City F.C. between 1932 and 1947, appearing 257 times and scoring 108 goals. He also played for Hamilton Academical and Stockport County F.C.. He won 1 cap for the Scotland national football team and also won the league championship with Manchester City F.C. in the 1936-37 season.
