Aldred of Lindisfarne

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Aldred of Lindisfarne (died 968) was Bishop of Lindisfarne from 947 to 968.

Much of what is known about the history of the Lindisfarne Gospels today is thanks to Aldred's additions to the texts, in Old English (the original texts were in Latin). His word-for-word translation was inserted between the lines of the original.
