I have removed the concern of notability. This guy was as professional a professional sportsman as you got back in the early 1890s - indeed, from what I gather, he was paid for his appearance and received something of an offer of a "contract", per se, at the time. I have checked for biographies on every player who represented the Derbyshire first team since 1957 at the very least, and am going back through the history of the team - albeit inbetween other things.
