From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Albion Park is a suburb of Shellharbour, New South Wales, Australia. The term 'Albion', is the most ancient name of Great Britain. Currently Albion Park has a population of 20,000, and continues to expand by a rate of 12.5% per year. Albion Park is bordered by the Illawarra escarpment in the west, Dapto in the North, Kiama in the South and Shellharbour in the East.

In order to avoid a the highest parts of the ridge between Albion Park and Minnamurra, the railway needed to keep closer to the shore of Lake Illawarra. After the opening of railway station, 2 km to the east, in 1887, a new town grew up next to it, now known as Albion Park Rail. It is now the larger suburb.
