Alberto Nassetti

Alberto Nassetti (Bologna18 July 1966 - Toulouse 30 June 1994) was an Italian aviator.

After he graduating the Francisco De Pinedo technical and aeronautical insitute of Rome. Alberto joined the Aeronautica Militare (the Italian air force. At the age of 23 Nasetti quit the air force and joined teh Italian airline Alitalia. Where he flew the McDonnell Douglas DC-9 and the McDonnell Douglas MD-80 on medium haul routes. In 1992 Alberto was diagnosed with a brain tumor, he soon had a operation to remove the tumor and became the first pilot to re-enter service after having a surgical operation to the brain.

In June 1994 Nassetti was chosen by the ANPAC to go to the Airbus plant in Toulouse France, to observe tests of the Airbus A330 an aircraft that Alitalia was considering buying. On the last day of the test the aircraft (F-WWKH) was performing takeoff in critical weather conditions. Which ment voluntary closing of a hydraulic circuit and blocking one of the motors in the engines. The aircraft took off successfully however apporoximatly 36 seconds after take off the aircraft vrashed into the ground. All 7 crew on the aircraft including Nasseti and another Alitalia pilot Pier Paolo Racchetti died in the crash.

After his death Alitalia decided not to buy the A330 but the Boeing B767-300 insted. When Alitalia received the aircraft, the airline dedicated a aircraft to Nassetti and Racchetti registration I-DEIC and I-DEIB respectivily. Also the ENAC ( The Italian authority for civil aviation) dedicated a road for each pilot in Rome's main airport
