Albert M. Craig

Albert M. Craig was the Harvard-Yenching Research Professor of Japanese History at Harvard University who specialized in Meiji Era intellectual history and social and economic history. Currently, he is an Emeritus Professor at Harvard. He is considered one of the pioneers of Modern Japanese historical studies and mentored a number of the prominent professors working in the field today.

Dr. Craig's interest in Japan began after the Second World War when he was stationed in Kyoto in 1947 while serving in the United States Army. In 1988, the Japanese government awarded him the Order of the Rising Sun.
