Albert Kirby

Detective Superintendent Albert Kirby QPM was a senior detective with Merseyside Police. He commanded the Serious Crime Squad and headed the investigation into the murder of James Bulger in 1993.

Kirby joined the Liverpool City Police as a Constable in 1964 and became a Detective Constable in 1967. He remained in the Criminal Investigation Department for the remainder of his career, retiring in 1998. He also spent some time on attachment with the National Crime Squad. He was awarded the Queen's Police Medal for distinguished service in 1994.

Since his retirement, Kirby has worked as a crime consultant in the financial world and also regularly lectures and broadcasts.
