Albert Herter

Albert Herter (1871-1950) was an artist and painter. He was born in New York, New York, and studied in Paris and then in New York's Art Students League. His father, Christian Herter formed Herter Brothers with his brother Gustave.

Albert Herter's paintings include Young Girl, Garden of the Hesperides, and Still Life with Flowering Dogwood and Japanese Figurines, and he created many murals. He married fellow artist Adele McGinnis. Their son Christian Herter was a famous politician, rising to Secretary of State under Dwight D. Eisenhower.

He was the original owner of "The Creeks" the extravagant 60-acre estate on Georgica Pond, East Hampton later the home of the painter Alfonso Ossorio and the dancer Ted Dragon and now owned by Ronald Perelman.
