Albert Dunbar Wedemeyer (born 4 February 1926 in Washington, D.C. – 5 May 2006 in Vienna, Virginia), son of four-star general Albert Coady Wedemeyer, was a decorated Korean War veteran who retired in 1986 after twenty-eight years as an officer with the Central Intelligence Agency's Directorate of Operations. He spent his early life in Washington, D.C., and was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School. During his career with the CIA, Mr. Wedemeyer had assignments in Venezuela, Chile, Panama and Mexico. In retirement, he served on the board of directors of the CIA Retirement Association. In 1946, he graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. After spending three years with occupation forces in Germany, he served with the 17th Infantry Regiment in the Korean War and received the Silver Star, the Bronze Star for valor and the Combat Infantryman Badge.
[edit] Personal Life
Wedemeyer married Dorothy Davenport in 1953, and the couple settled near Boyds, Maryland where they raised three children: sons Albert Stedman and William, and daughter Carol. Dorothy suffered a fatal heart attack at her home in 1992, and Wedemeyer remarried three years later to Irma Springer, with whom he lived in Vienna, Virginia until his death on May 5, 2006 from leukemia-related complications. He was buried in Arlington National Cemetery on June 2, 2006.
