Albert D. Baumhart

Albert D. Baumhart (June 15, 1908-January 23, 2001) was a politician and businessman. He was an Ohio State Senator, and a U.S. Representative from the 13th district of Ohio. He served four terms in the U.S. House of Representatives. He was also director of the Republican National Committee in 1953.

Baumhart was born in Vermilion, Ohio in 1908. He graduated the public schools of Vermilion and then attended the Ohio University, earning his A.B. and M.A. in 1931.

After graduation, Baumhart worked as a publishing house representative in Vermilion. He was elected to the Ohio State Senate in 1937, and subsequently elected to the Seventy-Seventh Congress in 1940. He resigned to accept a commission in the United States Navy, and was discharged a lieutenant commander. Upon his return home, he worked in the private sector. He was director of the Republican National Committee in 1953-1954, and was again chosen to return to Congress. He would serve in the Eighty-fourth, Eighty-fifth, and Eighty-sixth Congresses. He was a delegate to the 1968 Republican National Convention, and was a public relations consultant until his retirement.
