Albert Augustus Pope
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Albert Augustus Pope, US industrialist, (lived 1843 -1909) - sometimes called Colonel Pope - founded a successful bicycle manufacturing company in 1877. From 1896 he owned companies manufacturing electric vehicles and - later - petrol cars. By decline of cycle manufacturing, his motor group was dragged down. Following his death, some companies joined the United States Motor Company. Pope's empire finally collapsed in 1913.
He founded Pope Park, Hartford, Connecticut and donated it to the City.
