Albemarle High School

Albemarle High School is a public high school serving grades 9 through 12, the largest of the Albemarle County Public Schools located in the Jack Jouett District of Charlottesville, Virginia. Albemarle High School was founded in 1953. The current principal is Dr. Matthew Haas, who was appointed in 2004 following the retirement of Lawrence A. Lawwill.

Albemarle High School receives all students from Sutherland Middle School, and some from Jack Jouett Middle School, and Burley Middle School.

The main building includes many science labs, 2 computer labs, a library, a full auditorium, rooms for the band and choir, art rooms, a photography lab, a cafeteria, and 2 gymnasiums.

Albemarle High School is abound with honors, Advanced Placement, and Dual Enrollment classes through nearby Piedmont Virginia Community College.

On the school grounds is stadium with a track encircling a field used for football, soccer, field hockey, and lacrosse. Sports fields are also available for baseball and tennis. Sports offered include golf, swimming, indoor and outdoor track and field, football, soccer, basketball, baseball, volleyball, cross-country, field hockey, wrestling, tennis, lacrosse, and softball. The school colors are red and blue, and the teams are called the Patriots. Albemarle competes in the Commonwealth District, Northwest Region, and Group AAA of the Virginia High School League.

Students can become involved in clubs in the areas of art, music, yearbook, newspaper, foreign language, drama, service, and vocational activities. In addition, Albemarle High School holds many chapters to honors societies.

Adult Education and GED programs are offered in the evening. Facilities are available to the community.

Neighboring schools include Greer Elementary School and Jack Jouett Middle School.
