Alastair Layzell was a politician in the States of Jersey from 1993 until 2001, and is an independent television producer.

Alastair Layzell was born on 28 June 1958 in Jersey.
He was educated at Victoria College Preparatory, and then at Hautlieu School. He worked at Time Jewellers, and was also a presenter at Radio Lions, Hospital Radio Service, at Jersey's General Hospital. His experience there led to him joining Channel Television as a presenter, before branching out as an independent Television producer.
Since 1970, he has been a Church organist at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, St. Aubin.
In 1990, he co-founded Save Jersey’s Heritage. He has been an organiser since 1997 for The National Air Pageant which takes place in September in Jersey.
His interest in Jersey history led him to produce a series of videos as an A to Z of Jersey facts, and later he was also a producer and presenter of the Moments in Time videos for the Jersey Film Archive.
He entered the States in 1993 as a Deputy for St Brelade's Number 1 district on an environmental manifesto called Notre Ile: A Charter for Change. He became President of the Jersey Transport Authority, and Vice-president, Planning and Environment Committee. From 1999 to 2002, he was the President of Home Affairs Committee. In 2002, he was defeated by 34 votes by Sarah Ferguson, a former centenier in St Brelade.
In 2003, he unsuccessfully tried to return to the States as a Senator in a by-election caused by the resignation of Senator Anne Bailhache, but was beaten by Deputy Ted Vibert[1].
In 2006, he was one of the founding members of the St Aubin Anti-Reclamation Action Group, an organisation formed to oppose land reclamation plans at St Aubin to fill in an area behind the pier to create a car park[2].
