Al Qadarif

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Al Qadarif (also called Gedarif) (Arabic: القضارف) is the capital of the state of Al Qadarif in Sudan. It lies on the road that connects Khartoum with Gallabat on the Ethiopian border.

The Scottish explorer James Bruce (who calls the town Teawa) passed through the town in 1772. He records its sheikh, Fidele, was a vassal of the Kingdom of Sennar.

The town is famous for its sesame seed auctions, which take place daily.
