Albert Lee Martin (born on November 24, 1967), is a former Major League Baseball outfielder. He played most of his career for the Pittsburgh Pirates, wearing number 28 as his uniform number during his years with the Pirates.

[edit] Professional career

He has played for four different teams: the Pittsburgh Pirates (1992–1999), the San Diego Padres (2000), the Seattle Mariners (2000–2001), and the Tampa Bay Devil Rays (2003). His best season was in 1996 when he hit .300 with 18 home runs and 72 RBIs. That year he also stole 38 bases.

Martin had arguably the worst days of his career while playing for the Mariners in the 2001-2002 season.

Martin was also involved in a degree of controversy when it was discovered that he was keeping two separate wives in different parts of the country[citation needed]. Some believe that he signed with Tampa Bay so that he could have another wife.

Martin was also reportedly involved in a domestic abuse case with his wife.

There is some question as to whether Al Martin ever went to USC. He is also known to have lied about playing football at USC. While playing in Seattle, Martin was publicly asked by a local radio station to provide evidence of his claims. Martin said he would send in a team picture the following day but never came through on the promise.
