Al Quwa Al Jawiya (Arabic: القوة الجوية) is a football club based in Baghdad, Iraq. "Al Quwa Al Jawiya" is Arabic for "Air Force." Al Jawiya was the first club to be found in Iraq on July 4, 1931 under the name of "Gipsy Moth," by a group of Iraqi flight policemen from the RAF Base of Hanaidi. The men landed with their planes from London after four years of studying in the Cranwell College. Al Jawiya played its first match one day after it was founded, on July 5 against another military team from the Habbaniya (50 miles west of Baghdad) RAF base. Al Quwa Al Jawiya renamed its club to Al Tayaran (Airlines) in 1968 and decided to revert back to Al Quwa Al Jawiya in 1991.
