Alıp

Alıp (Alp) is a Turkic term referring for

  1. Title of nobles serving in military of Göktürk and Khazar qaghanates, Volga Bulgaria and some other states.
  2. An epic hero or a giant in Turkic folklore, usually noble. In some cases this term could be added to name of real person, such as Almış, Alp Ilutuer, Alp Arslan. Alıp could be found in the names of some places; in Tatar and Chuvash folklor Alıp batır create hills, shaking out a ground from his bask shoe ("Alıp mountains").
