"Al, Captured" (「囚われたアル」 Toraware ta Aru?) is episode 33 of the Fullmetal Alchemist TV series originally aired 2004-05-29.

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

Marta, one of Greed's associates, hops inside Alphonse's armor and slows him down just enough for Loa, another associate, to overpower Al. Greed threatens Edward with having one of his legs broken off if Ed tries to follow him. Nevertheless, Ed immediately begins searching for his brother's kidnappers. Izumi and her husband, Sig, arrive at Dante's house, and Dante gives Izumi a box of matches which had apparently been dropped by mistake. On the box of matches is the logo of Greed's hideout, The Devil's Nest. Through their conversation we learn that Dante has a very elitist view of alchemy, while Izumi's is more practical.

Greed's interest in Alphonse is, of course, entirely pragmatic. He wants to know how Al's soul was attached to his armor, which represents a form of immortality, and Greed wants to live forever, free of even a Homunculus' relatively few weaknesses. Izumi and Sig smash their way into The Devil's Nest, demanding that Al be released. They try to overpower Greed and his associates, but cannot. Just then, Edward arrives to even the odds, but their combined abilities still can't penetrate Greed's "Ultimate Shield," a form of invulnerability. The military raids the hideout, with a reinstated "Crimson Alchemist" Zolf Kimbley showing them the way. Whatever it is in the sack Kimbley is carrying, Greed is afraid of it, so he and his associates flee, taking Al with them.
